AQA Religious Studies Specification A

What you will study:

Component 1: The study of religions. 

Students will study the beliefs, teachings and practices of: 

  • Christianity
  • Judaism

Component 2: Thematic studies. 

Students will study four religious, philosophical and ethical themes: 

  • Theme A: Relationships and families. 
  • Theme B: Religion and life. 
  • Theme D: Religion, peace and conflict. 
  • Theme E: Religion, crime and punishment. 

How you will be assessed:

Component 1: The study of religions. 

  • Written exam: 1 hour 45 minutes. 
  • 96 marks, plus 6 marks for spelling, punctuation and grammar (SPaG) 
  • 50% of GCSE 

Component 2: Thematic studies. 

  • Written exam: 1 hour 45 minutes. 
  • 96 marks, plus 3 marks for spelling, punctuation and grammar (SPaG) 
  • 50% of GCSE

Religious Studies is an academically rigorous subject that is held in high esteem by both employers and higher education institutions. Religious Studies is an excellent foundation for higher education and careers in Law, Medicine, History, Government and Politics, Art, Journalism, Ethics, Psychology, Sociology, Theology and Philosophy.
