US Scholarship for Iffy

We are so proud of our Class of 2020 student Iffy Marinos, who has been awarded a scholarship to the University in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to be part of their women’s rowing team.

Iffy began rowing with Project Oarsome, part of Warrington Youth Rowing at the Warrington Rowing Club, when she was in Year 9 at Sir Thomas Boteler Church of England High School. Iffy’s talents were noticed quickly and she went on to win a scholarship at Eton College to train in the summer holidays, and she also took part in the Junior GB trials in February this year.

Upon Iffy receiving the scholarship, Headteacher Mrs Scott-Herron invited Iffy to school to congratulate her in person. Iffy commented: “I am so excited to have this opportunity. The hard work and training has paid off and I love it. I am so grateful to everyone who has supported me on this journey. I have high aspirations and I know I can get there if I continue to work hard. I am hard on myself but that is because I want to be the best I can be”

Mrs Scott–Herron said: ”To think that Iffy started rowing through a project at school and to see what she is now achieving is just phenomenal. She is a superb role model for others who are on the project, and demonstrates just what can be achieved through hard work. It is hard to put into words just how proud we are of her.”

Iffy will leave for Tulsa in August 2023. Congratulations Iffy. We couldn’t be prouder.
