Developing students to be fully prepared for the world of work and their future is part of our career’s educations. To enable us to succeed in this we work closely with the Careers and Enterprise Company and The Skills Builder Partnership.
Skills Builder partnership vision is ‘For everyone to build their essential skills to succeed.’
The Skills Builder Universal Framework is the world’s leading tool for measuring and building essential skills. It breaks the 8 essential skills down into a sequence of steps, starting with absolute beginner through to mastery.
It is backed by years of research. Developed with leading businesses, academics and educators, it consolidates the array of different frameworks into something comprehensive and practical.
The 8 essential skills are part of our curriculum and is embedded into students learning both in school and at home. We aim to develop each students strength of character by equipping them with the knowledge and skills for a successful future.
Essential skills unlock learning in the classroom, boosting academic outcomes, perseverance and self-belief. They halve the likelihood of being out of work and increase earnings across a lifetime. They even boost wellbeing and life satisfaction.
The Skills builder Framework breaks each of the eight skills down into a sequence of steps, supporting an individual’s personal development from absolute beginner through to mastery. It takes soft skills and puts rigor behind them.
Skills Builder is embedded throughout our ethos and practices: policies, staff training, the curriculum, wider curriculum, INSPIRE programme in formtime, collective worship, career events, PD events, trips, form time and at home.
Essential skills are highly transferrable, they support us to do any job, anywhere.
Students with stronger essential skills have been shown to enjoy greater life satisfaction and can earn up to 12% more than their peers.
On a national level, having a more skilled workforce can also result in greater productivity, and can ultimately contribute to a stronger economy overall.
Parents/carers – on the home zone you will find lots of activities to support the development of the 8 essential skills.
